Winter 2022: Paris

As a small winter break, we went to Paris to watch the six nations rugby and visit the capital of France. Two intensely packed days showed made us go from appreciating sport to art and architecture.

Travel Diary

Saturday February 12

In Rotterdam we took the TGV towards Paris, where we arrived around noon. We went looking for our B&B and headed into the city. The Sacre Coeur was closeby so we decided to make a little walk over there and enjoy the view. After this short intermezzo we made ourselves ready for the six nations game in the evening and headed out towards the Stade de France. This proved to be a bit more hectic than originally planned where we had to take two separate metros and squish ourselves into it due to the amount of people going to the stadium. However, when we arrived to the stadium we had very good seats (high up, first row of the third rank, but with a good overview). After a spectacular game we saw France take the victory over Ireland (30-24). The day was not over yet and for the evening we decided to go watch the Eiffel tower and have dinner. Tired but happy, we called it a day and went back to our B&B.

Sunday February 13

In the morning we woke up early to go to Montmartre since we planned on getting a portret drawn. We managed to get to our favorite artist there and two hours later we left the square with a masterpiece in our backpack (which is still hanging up in a frame at home). Next we headed south to visit the famous Paris catacombs. This was a very cool experience, where you could see and feel that it was designed as an attraction more than a graveyard (which was exactly the plan of the creators). Next we went on a walking trip through the city to stop at the Pantheon, the filmset of Emily in Paris, cafe de flore, the Louvre, and finally galleries Lafayette. Late in the evening we took the TGV all the way back to the Netherlands where we stumbled into bed a little bit later than midnight to conclude a short but intense citytrip.
