I wrote a book chapter about cardiac arrhythmia patterns for the book "Do you know what you see? – Understanding marvelous patterns in complex systems" managed by Stefan C. Müller and Kinko Tsuji. It details several relevant examples of abnormal excitation patterns in cardiac tissue including spiral waves, figure-of-eight reentry and double-armed spirals. These patterns are generated and visualized using cutting-edge techniques involving cardiac cell cultures and optical mapping. It is also shown how patterns appear in realistic anatomical geometries of the heart using multiscale computer models. The .manuscript contains a variety of beautiful visual patterns and images that were never published before. Additionally, a brief explanation was written regarding the relation of such patterns with cardiac arrhythmias.
